Our Privacy Commitment

PDFree is built on a simple principle: your documents are yours. We designed this service to operate entirely on your device (client-side) so that your files never need to leave your computer, tablet, or phone.

What Data We DON'T Collect

Unlike most online PDF tools, PDFree does not:

• Upload your files: All PDF processing happens in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your documents never touch our servers because we don't have document-processing servers.
• Store your files: Files exist only in your browser's temporary memory (RAM) while you're using the tool. Close the tab and they're gone — no traces, no backups.
• Track your activity: We don't use analytics, advertising pixels, or third-party tracking scripts. We don't know which tools you use or how often.
• Collect personal information: No email, no name, no account required. We don't ask for it, and we don't want it.
• Use cookies for tracking: The only data stored locally is your UI preferences (like theme choice) using browser localStorage. This never leaves your device.

Technical Details: How Privacy Works

Client-Side Processing

PDFree uses pdf-lib and pdf.js — JavaScript libraries that run entirely in your browser. When you upload a PDF:

1. The file is loaded into your browser's memory (RAM)
2. JavaScript processes the file (merge, split, compress, etc.)
3. A new PDF is generated in memory
4. You download the result directly from your browser

At no point does the file leave your device or get transmitted over the internet to any server.

What Happens to Your Files

Once you close or refresh the browser tab, all file data is immediately cleared from memory. There are no server-side logs, no cached copies, and no "temp folders" where your documents could linger.

LocalStorage

PDFree stores minimal UI state in your browser's localStorage:

• Theme preference (light/dark mode)
• Tool-specific settings (like last-used compression level)
• PWA installation state

This data never leaves your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser's settings.

Third-Party Services

PDFree loads resources from these external domains:

• cdn.jsdelivr.net: To deliver pdf-lib and pdf.js libraries (open-source PDF processing tools)
• Fonts: Served directly from pdfree.io — no Google Fonts, no external font requests

These are standard CDN services that do not track or log your usage in a way that can be attributed to you personally.

Data Security

Since your files never leave your device, the primary security model is your device's security:

• HTTPS encryption: PDFree.io is served over HTTPS to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks
• Content Security Policy: Strict CSP headers prevent cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks
• No server-side attack surface: Because there's no server processing files, there's no server to hack

Your responsibility: Keep your device secure with up-to-date software, strong passwords, and antivirus protection.

Children's Privacy

PDFree does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect data at all, there's nothing to protect or delete.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change our privacy practices (for example, if we add optional analytics with your consent), we will update this page and note the revision date at the top.

Compliance

GDPR (EU): PDFree's architecture makes it GDPR-compliant by design. We cannot violate data subject rights because we don't have your data.

CCPA (California): We do not sell personal information because we do not collect personal information.
