Important: PDFree is provided "as-is" without warranty. By using this service, you accept all risks associated with PDF processing, including potential data loss or file corruption.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using PDFree.io (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
PDFree provides browser-based PDF manipulation tools, including but not limited to:
- Merging multiple PDF files
- Splitting PDFs into separate pages or ranges
- Compressing PDF file size
- Converting images to PDF and PDF to images
- Adding watermarks, page numbers, and passwords
- Editing metadata and redacting content
- Rotating pages
All processing occurs client-side in your web browser. No files are uploaded to or stored on PDFree servers.
3. No Warranty
PDFree is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Fitness for a particular purpose: We do not guarantee the Service will meet your specific needs
- Accuracy: Processed PDFs may differ from originals in formatting, rendering, or content
- Reliability: The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, browser incompatibilities, or technical issues
- Security: While we use client-side processing, we cannot guarantee absolute security of your device or browser environment
4. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PDFree and its operators shall not be liable for:
- Data loss: Loss of files, corruption of PDFs, or unintended modifications
- Business interruption: Downtime, service unavailability, or processing failures
- Indirect damages: Loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or business opportunities
- Consequential damages: Any damages resulting from use or inability to use the Service
Some jurisdictions do not allow exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for incidental or consequential damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
5. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Backups: Maintaining backups of all files before processing. PDFree cannot recover lost or corrupted files.
- Legal compliance: Ensuring your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws and regulations
- Copyright: Only processing files you own or have permission to modify
- Security: Protecting your device with antivirus software, strong passwords, and updated software
- Verification: Reviewing all processed PDFs before relying on them for legal, financial, or critical purposes
6. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for illegal purposes or to process illegal content
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the Service's source code (where not open-sourced)
- Overload or disrupt the Service's infrastructure through automated abuse or denial-of-service attacks
- Misrepresent your affiliation with PDFree or imply endorsement of your products/services
- Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices in the Service
7. Encryption and Passwords
When using the "Protect PDF" tool:
- Password responsibility: You are solely responsible for remembering or securely storing passwords. PDFree cannot recover lost passwords.
- Encryption strength: RC4-128 encryption is provided for compatibility. It is not cryptographically secure against nation-state adversaries. For highly sensitive documents, use enterprise-grade encryption tools.
- No guarantee: We do not guarantee that encrypted PDFs cannot be decrypted by third parties with sufficient resources or motivation.
8. Redaction and Content Removal
The "Cover Area" redaction tool provides visual coverage only:
- Covered content remains in the PDF file structure and may be recoverable with forensic tools
- This tool is not certified for classified government documents or high-security legal redaction
- For permanent content removal, use certified redaction software or consult legal/compliance professionals
9. Intellectual Property
PDFree is open source under the GNU AGPLv3 license. The source code is available at GitHub.
Third-party libraries used by PDFree (pdf-lib, pdf.js, JSZip) are governed by their respective licenses.
You retain all rights to files you process. PDFree claims no ownership or rights to your documents.
10. Privacy
Our approach to user privacy is detailed in our Privacy Policy. Key points:
- All processing is client-side (in your browser)
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your files
- We do not track your activity or use analytics
11. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
12. Service Availability
PDFree may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice. We are not obligated to maintain the Service or provide support.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [Your Jurisdiction] without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of [Your Jurisdiction].
14. Severability
